Hurricane Sandy in Central Pennsylvania

I just downloaded this regional map and forecast cone overlay for Hurricane Sandy moments ago (as of 10:00 pm Eastern) from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website. The forecast is for maximum winds of 45-60 mph, and wind gusts of 60-70 mph.

Looks like we in Central Pennsylvania are in for a long night...

National Currency Notes

As a resident of the city of State College here in Central Pennsylvania, I was surprised to learn that years ago this city was home for a US National Bank that issued money. The photograph below depicts a US $20 National Currency note issued by the First National Bank of State College in 1929.

National Notes were issued by banks who received a charter from the US government authorizing such banks to issue money. The Government Printing Office printed these notes with the same design as other US currencies with the exception of including the name of the issuing bank, signatures of the bank officers, and the charter number. National Currency notes were printed in the US between 1863 to 1929.

I have to wonder if this currency innovation might be repeated in the US sometime in the future.

Main Street USA is the Future!

Main Street USA will eventually emerge from the ongoing economic crisis more "lean and mean" than ever. Workers along Main Street have lost vast wealth over the past four years. Conversely, the universe of government employees and pensioners, Social Security recipients, the military-industrial complex, the medical establishment, and unionized workers have experienced essentially none of the economic crisis to date. We along Main Street will likely "take no prisoners" from Federalists as we begin to emerge from the economic devastation around us.

The epic battle between big government Democrats and military-industrial Republicans over scarce sovereign borrowing rights to fund their mutually exclusive "guns or butter" approach to Federalism is at the root of everything evil about America and her empire.
