Evidence-Based Management Imperatives

Evidence-based management (EBM) is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making management decisions (Pfeffer & Sutton, 2006). EBM creates two imperatives for managers:
  1. Demand Evidence. Whenever someone makes a seemingly compelling claim, ask for supporting data and check the data for currency and accuracy.
  2. Examine Logic. Parse the logic behind evidence presented to you pragmatically for currency, as well as faulty cause-and-effect reasoning.
